Excellent article on LiveScience highlighting the work of the Ocean Conservancy’s International Coastal Cleanup, which took place on Sept. 15, 2012.
The amount of litter pollution that we contribute to the ocean is terrifying and every piece removed (or far better, prevented) is an important step. It is always difficult to inspire action though when the problem is so huge. The Sargasso sea, which has historically held mats of plant material as it is full of refuse – a giant ocean landfill.
The infographic (again from the Ocean Conservancy) does do a good job, however, of highlighting the steps that people can take to help the blue of our blue planet.
