Primate Evolution

early primate tarsier line

This is a really interesting story, shedding further light onto the origins of our lineage within the primates order. Unlike Ida, who was initially purported to be our earliest ancestor (though we now believe that it lies on the other primate branch*), this new fossil is closer (though still not an ancestor, this one lies on the tarsier lineage*)to our own lineage and it will be exciting to see how new fossils and further extant primate genome sequencing combine together to build an accurate picture of primate evolution – something that is still far from refined!
